The Gladstone Australian Football Club was founded in 1972 as the Gladstone Mudcrabs. While the Gladstone Mudcrabs had a long, proud and sometimes checkered history, at the end of 2018 the members, by majority vote, decided to take the club in a new exciting direction, rebranding as the Gladstone SUNS. Since our area is located within the Gold Coast Suns catchment zone, whose staff work in the area with development opportunities, Auskick programs and in-school programs, and because we have the best weather in Australia.. the Gladstone SUNS was a perfect fit.
 

This 'line in the sand' moment was a conscious and deliberate decision to wipe the slate clean, leaving the past in the past and to begin a bold, determined, respectful and family-friendly new chapter, with a host of enthusiastic players, supporters and importantly sponsors. The club is determined to always pay our respects and never forget our Mudcrab history, celebrating the successes on the field, the effort and commitment of our life members and the long list of past players that donned the green and white, by playing a 'heritage' game each year in full Mudcrab colours.

AFL offers a team sport for all children 5 years old through to senior grades, and with administrative support always needed around the club, making the Gladstone Suns the perfect choice for families that all want to be involved
in the one exciting sport. We insist on 'Inclusion, Opportunity & Support' and that's why we are one of the most affordable sports in the city. All our packages include shorts, socks, polo shirt, free entry to home games, insurance* and league registration. For those who simply want to support, we also offer Social Memberships which also include a polo shirt

and free entry into all home games.

The Gladstone Suns have two Men's teams, a Women's team who we are extremely proud of, and six fantastic junior teams ranging from U7's through to U17's. Girls can participate in U13's until a maximum age of 15 before moving up to Women’s.  We also run our own  Auskick program which is the best way to get our future A Graders interested in the sport.

We are embarking on a journey to achieve long and sustained success at both the junior and senior levels and being the club that our supporters, sponsors and the Gladstone community will be proud of. We believe that we can achieve this by nurturing our youth through the grades, recruiting committed and club-first players to complement our already dedicated and battle-hardened warriors, being tough, fair and respectful on the field while importantly having, a great family-friendly, social environment off the field.

There is nothing more satisfying than being at the start when building a legacy.
