Bill Robertson Toyota Seniors take their first win as the Suns and the clubs first Seniors win in nearly 2 years and first away win since 2016!
Round 7 wrap up!
On Saturday it was the Sir Doug Nicholls Round across Australia and the club travelled to Rocky to take on Glenmore Bulls.
First up was our Yaralla Sports Club junior sides.
U13’s had yet another close game with the final result being a draw, the side has had many close games now, so let’s hope they can start getting on and staying on the winning side of the scoreboard!
U15’s were unfortunately outclassed in all quarters of the game, coming up against a red hot Glenmore side. With the break coming up, it would be great to see all the lads get down to training and work hard for coach Antony before our next round.
U17’s was a similar story, with the lads also going down in all quarters with Glenmore having all the play. The lads only went down by 9 points in their Round 2 match up at home, so hopefully in our Round 12 match, they can get the win.
The Bill Robertson Toyota Reserves took to the field next and after quite a few close losses over the past few games, the lads would love to have finally got on the winning side of the scoreboard. Unfortunately, with a walking wounded side making the trip up to give the Bulls a game, the lads just fell short of the win, going down by just 1 point after leading right up until the final few minutes of the game. Very spirited effort by all that played though and big thanks to the U17’s lads that debuted and the couple of new players to the club.
Our Oaks Grand Gladstone Women were taking on the 2nd placed Glenmore side and they were looking to follow on from their win last weekend and improve against the strong Glenmore side from the round 2 clash. Credit to the women, they played some excellent football and showed vast improvements from their first clash with the side. Previously they were held scoreless while the opposition piled the score on. This time around we managed a couple of goals of our own and also kept them to a smaller score. Great result and improvements when travelling to their home ground!
The final game of the day was of course our Bill Robertson Toyota Seniors. After showing signs of improvements the last couple of weeks with some good passages of footy and recently picking up some handy players, the side was looking to continue to improve week by week. The side got off to the perfect start kicking the first few goals of the game before Glenmore were able to steady with one of their own but from here we were able to keep our noses in front most of the game before pulling away slightly in the last quarter to notch a win by 26 points! This was a great effort in turning around a 95 point loss last time at home to a win away, plus the first win in seniors for nearly 2 years and first away win since 2016! Great effort.
Once again, huge thanks to our player awards sponsors for 2019!
